Papers consist of the minutes of the Ladies Auxiliary Society of the Tree of Life Congregation from September 7, 1911 to October 10, 1921 ; minutes of a meeting (March 13, 1913) relating to the hiring of the sexton ; a letter (March 1, 1931) announcing to Mr. A. Goldstein that his salary had been reduced ; newspaper clippings relating to the history of Tree of Life and seventieth anniversary materials.

Tree of Life (or Ez Hayyim), the second synagogue to be founded in Pittsburgh (1864). Those who formed the congregation wanted to preserve the traditional orthodox form of worship. In 1906, the congregation moved from its original synagogue on Fourth Avenue and Ross Street, to a new building on Craft Avenue, where it stayed until moving into Squirrel Hill.
